The Registers

The Register of Nurses contains the names and particulars of registered nurses.
The Register of Midwives contains the names and particulars of registered midwives.

Section 16 of the Nurses and Midwives Act 1991 provides for the Registers to include information including the person's full name, the qualification(s) on which registration was granted, details if applicable about authorisation as a nurse practitioner or midwife practitioner and other particulars as specified by the Act or the regulations.

The addresses of nurses and midwives do not form part of the public Registers.  Addresses and other information about registrants is kept separately and is not available to members of the public.

Persons who are entitled to be registered as both nurses and midwives are required by legislation to be registered as nurses in order to be registered as midwives [sections 19(3) and 33(7) of the Nurses and Midwives Act 1991].  A single annual practising fee is payable whether a person's name is in either or both Registers [section 33(1A)].
