National Decision-Making Framework
The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) has developed a National Framework for the development of decision-making tools for nursing and midwifery practice. The Framework, developed in the context of national workforce strategies promoting diversity, flexibility and responsiveness in the workforce, reflects a whole-of-health workforce perspective.
The National Framework consists of two parts. The first is a set of principles that form the foundation for the development and evaluation of decision-making tools. The second contains two templates for decision-making tools, one for nursing (registered and enrolled nurses) and one for midwifery, in recognition of the differences between the two professions.
The purpose of the Framework is to foster consistency across jurisdictions by:
* Identifying the agreed foundation principles for decision-making tools implemented by nursing and midwifery regulatory authorities * Demonstrating the application of the principles and concepts in the two professions.
