Information for 2009 New Graduate Nurses and Midwives

The following is provided for the information of new graduates of Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Midwifery or Graduate Diploma in Midwifery courses recognised by the Board and conducted by universities in New South Wales.  This information should be read in conjunction with the Board’s booklet Information for Applicants for Registration and Enrolment, and the English language requirements.

All applicants are required to provide evidence of English language competence.  Graduates should refer to the information on this website that identifies those applicants who are required to provide an English language test and those applicants who have completed secondary education in Australia that meet the requirements for a waiver of the test.

The Information Booklet identifies the documents required which should accompany registration applications.  Applicants who have been granted credit into a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery course, or completed an accelerated pathway leading to a recognised Bachelor in Nursing must provide additional information on the courses which led to entry to the program, or for which credit was granted.  Additional information on the subject equivalence may also be required from the university, if the graduate has not completed all subjects in the recognised program of study.

Students should check that the university education documents are in the same name as their primary identity document.

Applicants who already hold registration as a health professional in another country or State of Australia should refer to the information on requirements for evidence of good professional standing and licensure in the other jurisdiction.  Applicants should arrange for these to be sent directly to the Board from the registering authority or last employer (if there is no registering authority) in the other jurisdiction / state or country.  This should be requested prior to completion of the course to allow for delays in postage from other states or countries.

The application form for Registration as a Nurse or Registration as a Midwife in New South Wales should be downloaded from the Board’s website (see link below).
The application form should be completed in full and returned to the Board together with the prescribed fee and all relevant documents listed in the Information Booklet, and any additional information regarding disclosures not previously submitted.

The form and other information documents may be obtained from the Board’s office, by telephoning 02 9219 0222, if you are unable to download the document/s from the website.
