Information for the Public

The Nurses and Midwives Board fulfils the objects of the legislation by which it is established and undertakes the functions which are provided in the legislation. The objects are stated in section 2A of the Nurses and Midwives Act 1991 and are:

* to protect the health and safety of the public by providing mechanisms to ensure that nurses
   and midwives are fit to practise, and
* to provide mechanisms to enable the public and employers to readily identify nurses and      
   midwives who are registered or enrolled under this Act.
