Authority to Administer Drugs of Addiction

Registered nurses are taken to be authorised to administer drugs of addiction in hospitals and nursing homes unless the authorisation has been specifically withdrawn.  Withdrawal of a nurse's "drug authority" is done by the Chief Pharmacist, Pharmaceutical Services Branch of the NSW Health Department, who holds a delegation from the Director-General of Health.
