Counselling

Section 45(1)(b) of the Nurses and Midwives Act 1991 provides that one avenue for dealing with a complaint concerning a nurse or midwife is to direct the nurse or midwife to attend for counselling.

While there are various modes of counselling that might be undertaken, counselling is usually related to expected professional standards.

The Counselling Committee may be made up of Board Members who provide the counselling or they may coopt other persons to assist or may refer the nurse or midwife to one or more specified counsellors.
