Code of Professional Conduct
Section 43 of the Nurses and Midwives Act 1991 provides that the Board may establish one or more codes of professional conduct setting out guidelines that should be observed by nurses and midwives in their professional practice.
In April 2003, the Nurses and Midwives Board "established" the Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses in Australia (published by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council) in accord with the provisions of section 43.
The Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses in Australia may be purchased from the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) or may be downloaded from the ANMC website.
New codes of professional conduct and ethics are being developed in a project being undertaken for the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council.
